THE Kano State Hisbah Board says it arrested 20 youths for misconduct during the Eid-el-Fitri celebration.

Malam Mohammed Yusuf, public relations officer of the board, stated this at the weekend in Kano.

“During Sallah, the board arrested 20 youths who dressed indecently and some young boys who kept long hair. We barbed their hair immediately and advised them to desist from any act of misconduct,” he said.

Yusuf explained that none of the cases was taken to court, pointing out that they were all settled by the workers of the board.

According to him, the board encourages good behaviour and discourages bad deeds among residents.

“During the festive season, we sent over 100 officials to assist people at the various Eid prayer grounds. We also had meetings with owners of public parks and hoteliers on the need to be more security conscious and ensure that no one is missing,” Yusuf said.

Meanwhile, the state water board has urged water consumers in the state to settle their water bills to enable the board provide uninterrupted service to the populace.

The General Manager (Commercial) of the board, Mr. Auwalu Mohammed, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.


Mohammed said settlement of bills would assist the board carry out regular maintenance of its facilities, payment of staff salaries and electricity bills.


He added that the aim of the board was to ensure regular provision of water and maintenance of its equipment.


“Garin Malam water treatment plant and pipelines are underway. Also, the 100mm tile pipe laying from Tambarawa water treatment plant to Hadejia road roundabout will start soon,” he said.


Mohammed urged consumers to report any water leakage to the nearest office of the board to ensure prompt repairs and to avoid water contamination.
