CORPORATE organisations, government agencies and residents in Maiduguri metropolis, the Borno State capital, Friday lauded the restoration of 24-hour uninterrupted supply of electricity to the city.

The restoration was achieved by the Federal Government’s high-powered committee on reconnection of power installations that were cut off by Boko Haram insurgents last May.

According to a 303 Housing Estate resident, Fati Usman, the restoration was marvelous and commendable.

She said during the seven-month plunge of Maiduguri metropolis into darkness, electrical appliances were dumped by homes.

At the Flour Mill Industrial Estate, one of the security guards, Hamidu Isa said that the restoration of electricity to Maiduguri has eased his job by lightening up all the premises of the mill.

A top government official attached to the Maiduguri Government House, who doesn’t want his name in print, also said: “This is the beginning of the ‘good things’ that may return to the people and business communities, despite the Boko Haram

insurgency that has affected most our towns and villages in northern and southern Borno. Even though electricity is one the basic needs of life, its supply and sustenance by TCN and three of its business units

at Yerwa and Bulunkutu will revamp the destroyed local economies with increased job creations and less dependent on power generating sets of many households.”

Confirming the development, the Manager of Yerwa Business Unit, Engineer Haruna Umar, said seven residential areas and industrial estates had been getting uninterrupted electricity supplies since the reconnection of Borno State was achieved.
