GOVERNORSHIP candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo state, Seyi Makinde Monday assured victims of last Saturday’s fire disaster of financial assistance to mitigate the effect of their loses in the inferno.

The S and T barracks constructed with planks went in flames at the weekend rendering the victims homeless alongside their loss of every household item as well as their clothing.

Makinde made an on the-spot assessment visit to the scene of the fire disaster while leaving the state capital on a campaign tour of Oke-Ogun area (Oyo North) of the state in readiness for the next month governorship election in the state.

The governorship candidate, who expressed sympathy with the victims of the fire disaster, which reduced the entire place into rubbles, told the distraught victims to see the incident as a natural disaster that is common during the dry season.

He equally asked them to be grateful to God for the safety of their lives, stressing that every other thing lost in the incident could be replaced, but there’s no replacement for life.

Makinde, while expressing his readiness to assist the victims in his own little way, asked the people living in the barracks to compile the list of those who were affected by the inferno and pass it to his campaign organization for prompt action.

While welcoming the SDP flag-bearer and other members of his entourage to the scene of the incident, one of the victims, Gabriel Adeyemo thanked the team for identifying with them in this critical moment of their lives.

Recalling the various humanitarian gestures of the governorship candidate at similar scenes in the past, Adeyemo said Makinde had shown himself as a compassionate and highly sensitive person to the plight of the people, a virtue that makes him suitable for the governorship position of the state and prayed for his success at the forthcoming polls.
