NAP Tasks Govt On Confab

THE National Advanced Party (NAP) has called on government to release the report of the aborted national conference to the public.

  In a statement sent to The Guardian, the national publicity secretary of the party, Dr. Loveday Omorodion, quoting the founder of NAP, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, said the conveyance would have been the greatest achievement of the present government if it had sustained the momentum and carried the process to its logical conclusion.

   He stated that the party would not allow so much money put into the process, which was capable of providing employment opportunities for the teeming youths if deployed differently, to go down the drain, as in the case of many other panels, whose resolutions are not implemented.

   The statement demand that the report of the confab be sent to the media for serialization, so that Nigerians can know some of the resolutions and thus ignite public discourse that would precipitate a referendum.

   “It was the money of the people that was expended and, therefore, they are entitled to know the outcome of the confab. Anything short of this will tantamount to wasteful application of resources and a gross violation of rights of the people. 

 “Should the Chairman and secretary refuse to act on the side of the people, the media has the responsibility to haunt for the report and tell it to the people. This is a responsibility the media should gladly take as the watchdog of the society.

   “The Oputa panel was set aside, Justice Uwais report on electoral reform was also set aside, the list is endless. We insist that the media, the leadership of confab and the Nigerian people should demand for the confab report and ensure its implementation. This is part of the process to restore the glory of this country,” the statement said.
