NASFAT prays for peaceful elections

THE Nasirul-lahi-Fathi (NASFAT) Islamic Society, has scheduled a special meeting and prayer session with political stakeholders ahead of the February general elections.

Alhaji Abdulgafar Sanusi, Chairman of the Kubwa branch of the society, Abuja, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.

Sanusi said the prayers which would hold on Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Kubwa praying ground of the society, was for peace during and after the elections.

He said that there was also the need to create awareness in the minds of all stakeholders on the need to regulate their conduct during and after the elections.

The forthcoming election is a strategic event in the history of our nation and it will go a long way in defining our corporate existence.

As stakeholders and a compassionate national faith-based organisation, NASFAT finds it necessary to organise the one-day special prayer session for the peaceful conduct of elections,’’ he said.

The chairman said all stakeholders in the elections had accepted to attend the prayer session, and that prominent scholars would be invited to deliver lectures on peaceful elections.

Prominent Islamic and political scholars would be there to pray and admonish us on the need for peace during and after the election period.

All the major political parties participating in the elections have been contacted and they have all agreed to send their representatives.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also agreed to be well represented,’’ he said.

He said there was the need to pray to God to avert violence and disharmony before, during and after the elections, adding that the idea was informed by the need to achieve peace.

Sanusi advised politicians to conduct themselves peacefully during their campaigns and be law abiding.

He also urged the youths not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs.

He said that chairmen of the major political parties as well as Chairman of INEC, Prof. Atahiru Jega, were expected to attend the prayer session. (NAN)
