A POLICE Corporal identified as Adamu Yakubu yesterday shot dead a Police Sergeant at a checkpoint along the Benin-Akure Road, Edo State.

Yakubu and his superior were said to have engaged in a heated argument over the way the corporal controlled traffic at the checkpoint. Consequently, the sergeant ordered that Yakubu be disarmed.

An eyewitness stated: “But other policemen started begging the Sergeant to forgive the Corporal so that he will be able to resume work. The Sergeant agreed and asked them to give the gun back to Yakubu.

“But after 10 minutes, we heard a gunshot and everybody started running. We later found out that it was the corporal that had shot the sergeant. The man died immediately.

“Other policemen at the checkpoint immediately arrested the corporal and they took him away.”

Edo State Police spokesman, Peter Ogboi, confirmed the incident.

He said investigation would continue on the incident and that Yakubu would be prosecuted accordingly.
