SECURITY has been beefed up in Lafia ahead of Saturday’s visit to Nasarawa state by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate.

DSP Ugochukwu Theodore, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) made the statement on Saturday in Lafia in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the command had deployed its men to strategic places in the capital to ensure violent free rally.

“It is the duty of the police to ensure the maintenance of law and order as well as protect the lives and properties of the citizens.

“The command has deployed officers to most of the strategic places in the state to forestall break down of law,’’ he said.

The PPRO urged the people to shun acts capable of tarnishing the image of the state, adding that they should embrace peace irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations.

A resident of Lafia Mr Solomom Aruwa, commended the police for maintaining law and order ahead of the visit of the APC presidential candidate.

He urged on them not to relent in their efforts to protect the lives and property of the people.

Mr Ibrahim Abu, a motorcycle operator popularly called “Okada rider’’ commended the security measures put in place and described it as `good omen,’

He however complained that restriction on movement on some streets had negatively affected their business. (NAN)
