THE National Identity Management Commission Thursday said it has printed six (6) million cards and are ready for distribution to Nigerians, even as the organization will commence sending SMS (short message service) to all enrollees, whose cards are ready for collection.

Director General of the Commission, Chris Onyemenam, said in Minna when he paid a courtesy call on former military President Ibrahim Babangida, that the commission has made reasonable progress with the National Identity Management Scheme and it is at the stage of distribution, with six million cards ready for collection.

“We have started distribution of the cards to Nigerians nationwide. We started with Abuja, Lagos and Rivers States. Other state offices are ready for deployment and will start soon.

“Nigerians will get their cards before April. To avoid crowding the centres, NIMC will send an SMS to all enrollees whose cards are ready. Whoever receives such an SMS, should proceed to where he or she enrolled to collect his/her card.”

According to Anthony Okwudiafor, the General Manager Corporate Communication, General Babangida, visibly impressed by the card, said that the card would no doubt help reduce the security challenges by the present administration.
