UNFPA recommits with media on Nigeria’s health policies

THE United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Wednesday pledged to strengthen its partnership with the media in Nigeria to promote reproductive issues.

The fund said the synergy was aimed at specifically improving on implementation of policies on reduction of maternal and child mortality and gender issues.

The UNFPA Country Representative, Mrs Raditzai Ndhlovu, made this known while addressing participants at a workshop for media reporters training and formation of network in Kaduna.

Ndhlovu said the fund would work with the media on the implementation of health policies nationwide.

She said the fund would collaborate with the media to effectively publicise reproductive health and rights act, gender equality, population and young people’s issues on health.

The representative explained that the fund organised the workshop to forge ahead a stronger partnership with the media organisations at the commencement of the 7th UNFPA country programme.

She disclosed that the fund would also support successful implementation of knowledge management, advocacy, policy implementation, maternal and reproductive health support.

Other areas of intervention by the fund, she said, included prevention of HIV and AIDS, data collection and analysis as well as mobilisation of stakeholders.

In his remarks the UNFPA Deputy Country Representative, Mr Koffi Kouame, said the partnership had zoned the country into four with a cell to represent each zone to ensure that the partnership improved upon the activities of the fund on health.

The UNFPA media associate, Kori Habib, tasked beneficiaries of the training to face the challenge of improving implementation of health issues for a healthy nation and rapid development. (NAN)
