INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Acting Chairman, Philip Umeadi (Jnr.), a lawyer, has been praised for freezing the agency’s accounts in the wake of reported alleged withdrawal of about N2 billion shortly before his predecessor, Prof. Maurice Iwu, was directed by President Goodluck Jonathan to proceed on pre-disengagement leave.

The commendation came from the president of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Alumni Association Worldwide, Chief Richard Ahonaruogho, who described the action as bold, courageous and in line with Jonathan administration’s anti-corruption posture.

Iwu did not handover to Umeadi who was the most senior National Commissioner as ordered by the President. Umeadi was the National Commissioner in charge of Publicity.

Ahonaruogho described Umeadi as a “UNIBEN alumnus and a man of integrity.”
