Olajuwon Obasanjo, the son of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, has formally joined president Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign team of ahead of the 2019 general election.

This was disclosed by the spokesperson for the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo, on Twitter

“We officially received OBJ’s son at d PMB Campaign Headquarters today in Abuja,” Keyamo said.

The former president had publicly chastised President Buhari and tagged him nepotistic and incompetent of running a government that could change the fortunes of Nigeria.

He also recently endorsed the opposition People’s Democratic Party presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku.

His son had in a letter in September pledged his support for the re-election of Buhari.

“I have taken a personal decision to release the statement and to notify you of my availability to work for the re-election of our dear President Muhammadu Buhari with sincerity and loyalty,” Olajunwon said in the letter.

While endorsing the PDP candidate, whom he had earlier alleged of corruption cases outside the country, the former president said he was endorsing his former vice because he “has re-discovered and re-positioned himself. As I have repeatedly said, it is not so much what you did against me that was the issue but what you did against the party, the government and the country.”

The election, scheduled for February 16, 2019, is expected to be keenly-contested between Atiku and Buhari.
