Odigie-Oyegun lauds Okpozo, condoles with Ogbodu family
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has described the late Senator Francis Okpozo as someone who dedicated his life to improving the welfare of the people.
He stated this when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the late elder statesman in Benin City.
“We are here to sympathise with you on the passage of a great man. All his life as a politician, he worked to improve the situation in the country, the state and the people.
“Those of us who worked with him know that he was a man who was totally dedicated to the welfare of this country and totally dedicated to ensuring that life is better for the people.
“We want to assure you that your father’s efforts were appreciated and his commitment was noticed,” he stated.
Responding, one of Okpozo’s children, Mrs. Onome Agbonla described the visit as a justification that Odigie-Oyegun was indeed a friend to their father.
“For us as a family, we really appreciate your visit. I remember when you were governor in the old mid-west state and am happy that today you are still relevant in politics and in the running of affairs of your party.
“My father was part of the political struggle, I believe that struggle continues even now that he is no more,” she stated.
The APC leader also paid a condolence visit to the family of Deaconess Iyose Ogbodu also known as ‘Mama SDP’.
According to Odigie-Oyegun: “I’m sure you know how close your mother and I were. She was one of the people who supported me at that time when I was governor of old midwest state. She was our women leader in the time of Social Democratic Party (SDP). She followed us all over, right from Bendel to Edo State including the riverine areas. ”
