The Ogun State government has said its free education policy is open to all irrespective of age, religion, ethnicity or gender equality.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, made the clarification at a graduation ceremony for non-formal education programme in Abeokuta.

The commissioner, in a statement signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Elijah Udofia, described literacy as ability to read, write, calculate and communicate fluently within the society, adding that adult education remained a component of the state government’s free education policy.

She, however, congratulated beneficiaries of the basic and vocational programme for completing their studies, charging them to contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the state.

Also speaking, the Director of Education, Ogun State Agency for Mass Education, Mrs. Oso Lukoya, said government had successfully reactivated moribund skill acquisition/women education centres in Sagamu, Obafemi Owode, Odeda and Ado-Odo/Ota local councils while centre-based Management Committee on Mass Literacy Programme had also been inaugurated.
