The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, yesterday urged former President Olusegun Obasanjo to use his influence “to guide the youths of the country to a glorious future.”

Oba Ogunwusi, who spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital during a visit to the ex-president at his residence said the country’s unity is not negotiable.

The monarch disclosed how as a Prince, Obasanjo prayed for him to become the Ooni one day and how the prayers have come to pass.Ogunwusi said the youths required proper guidance from personalities like Obasanjo and other respected statesmen in the country to lead them in the path of honour and a renewed hope for the future.

“Sir, in all you do, do not forget the youth. The more we have such a person like you, the better the Nigerian society would be. It is the youth that some of the bad politicians approach to use them to cause confusion in the society. And we want to say enough is enough.”

“They need someone to guide them to channel their energies into productive venture and someone like you who possess an incomparable experience is what they need to motivate them to become responsible elders,” he said.

Obasanjo, in his response said he would have loved to come down to Ife to see the monarch, “but, when he insisted that he will like to come, who am I to turn down our Kabiyesi.”

He advised the monarch to remain focused, noting, “You (Ogunwusi) have started well and may God continue to be with you. In a nation of diverse ethnic groups like Nigeria, we must see people whose actions will bridge the gap of the diversity and foster unity.”
