Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday paid an unscheduled inspection visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Prof. Osinbajo was accompanied on the tour of the airport’s facilities by the Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika.

The Acting President was conducted round by Mr Ephraim Nwodo, General Manager, Mechanical, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The facilities inspected by the acting president included the conveyor belt, travollator, visa on arrival section, screening machines and the new departure terminal, which is under construction.

Osinbajo expressed dissatisfaction with the state of some of the facilities, adding that there was need to urgently make them function at optimal level.

Speaking to newsmen at the end of the visit, he maintained that the Federal Government was committed to improving the ease of doing business in the country.

He said: “The airport is one of the major places where we need to ensure that facilities are working and that things are being done properly.

“So, we have looked around and have seen quite a few of the equipment.

“There are many things that need to be done and need to be corrected and we have to work on them.’’

Also speaking, Sirika said he was in agreement with the observations raised by the acting president.

“I agree with the acting president a hundred per cent that work needs to be done to improve our airport and that is why we are here,’’ he added.

If the president or his vice has the time to inspect airports, then we’ll continue to chase our collective tails like a foolish cat would do. What are the ministers of aviation doing? What are the airport managers doing? I am sorry, but this is an unnecessary waste of president’s precious time. There are better things Osinbajo could have been doing to get Naija running better. He should have been busy brainstorming with the country’s economic team about how to stop the already battered economy from further steep slide into depression. But he left Aso Villa to come to MMIA to inspect the conveyor belt? While at it, did he also check to be sure the toilets can flush and are stocked with tissue papers? I guess he also had time to inspect the floors to be certain that they are washed & buffed clean. Really, can heads roll that we have nothing to show at that giant mess of an airport for all the billions squandered on improving it? That’s what a president would do: can the a$$es of all the good-for-nothing administrators of our institutions and infrastructures all over town for inefficiency and incompetence. Chei! Something is actually rotten in Denmark!!
