PDP Opts Out Of Edo Re-scheduled Assembly Election
EDO State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday, said it has pulled out of the rescheduled election in Orhiomwon local council area of Edo State to determine the winner of the Orhiomwon State Constituency II in the State House of Assembly.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had rescheduled the election in 12 polling units spread across three wards in the council namely Ukpato, Ugu and Evboesi to determine the representative of Orhiomwon State Constituency II.
According to PDP chairman in Orhiomwon local council area, Barr. Nosakhare Ogieva-Okunbor, the party took the decision, when it discovered that INEC is acting a script written by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to deny PDP victory.
“Considering the flagrant and gross abuse of electoral process that have trailed the elections conducted so far, we have resolved to pull out of the election.
“INEC has manipulated the whole process. Results that are favourable to us from the previous election have been rejected while those favourable to the APC have been accepted,” he stated.
The PDP candidate in the election, Friday Ogieriakhi, said it was of no use participating in an election whose end is already predetermined.
“We will not dignify the fraud that is being perpetrated by INEC. We will challenge the result of the election in court and reclaim our mandate.”
Meanwhile Edo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), yesterday lauded the recently concluded elections into the State House of Assembly, urging losers to accept their fate and prepare for another contest after four years.
In a statement signed by the state chairman of the party, Prince Frank Ukonga, the party called on the winners to deliver quality service to the electorate.
Ukonga said: “The experience of the polls has shown that power belongs to the people and that politicians should learn from the revolution sweeping across the state and the federation, where more than 80 per cent of the former executives and legislatures in the states where voted out of office for non performance.”

We will review and take appropriate action.
