The south-south zonal working committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday flayed the quizzing of Edo State party Chairman, Dan Orbih.
Orbih was interrogated by the state Police Command over alleged diversion of rice meant for the internally displaced persons in the state.

The party condemned the action in a seven-point communiqué by the National Vice Chairman (south-south), Mr. Emmanuel Ogidi.

The seventh session of the working committee was held at the PDP secretariat in Benin City, the state capital.

The leaders pledged their support for the Orbih-led PDP in state, and condemned the unwarranted intimidation and detention of members of the party across the country.

Ogidi commended the state executive committee and the entire PDP family for their resilience and sustainability of the party.

He said the PDP’s strength had continued, despite the unfavourable and hostile political terrain under which it has operated in the state.

The party also criticised the various killings of innocent Nigerians across the country.

Ogidi said the PDP was concerned and expressed heart felt condolences to the people of Plateau and Benue states over the killings in the states by Fulani herdsmen.

He promised that the south-south zone would collaborate with other zones in the country to produce a credible presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections.

This, he added would be done within the confines of credible and acceptable democratic process, as stipulated by the party’s constitution.

The zone rejected the recent reintroduction of the offshore/onshore dichotomy, which it said, was inconsistent with the principles of true federalism.

The national vice chairman urged the National Assembly to consider restructuring as panacea for a united Nigeria.

On his part, Orbih said no amount of intimidation would stop the PDP in the state from telling the people the truth.

He added: “For democracy to survive, any government in power must accommodate and tolerate the opposition.”
