Three weeks after he allegedly murdered one Ganiyu Ayinla, the personal assistant of Azeez Adekunle Lawal, chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos Island, suspected serial assassin, Adeola Williams, aka Ade Lawyer, has been arrested by the police.

Touted to be the most notorious assassin in the southwest region, Williams was arrested by the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) alongside his accomplice, Rafiu Olorunwa Akanni, aka Olorunwa, a former Lagos NURTW boss, who hired him.

Following the death of Ayinla, a massive manhunt was launched and the IRT, led by ACP Abba Kyari, caught Williams in their dragnet.

The 39-year-old indigene of Isasi Village in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State was said to have been on the most wanted list of the police for over five years before he was nabbed in his newly rented house in Akure, Ondo State, by IRT operatives.

Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the assassination of Ganiyu Ayinla in Lagos and numerous other assassinations in the southwest part of the country. He further confessed that the former NURTW boss hired him to assassinate Lawal for N1.5 million and was given N500,000 as advance payment.

He was supposed to be given the balance of N1 million after the job was completed but they mistakenly shot the target’s personal assistant, as they were both in the same car. Having failed with the assignment, Akanni was said to have refused to give him the balance of N1 million as agreed.

Angered by the refusal of Akanni to pay him the remaining balance, Williams traced his driver and confiscated his black Hyundai jeep. He was said to have then called Akanni and told him that the release of the jeep would only happen if he remits the N1 million balance.

According to him, the money would help him and his boys to hide until the heat comes down as two of his gang members were already arrested by the police.

On his past victims, he said: “I assassinated the popular Hamburger, an NURTW chairman in Oshodi. I also killed one Baba Jide Dosumu, aka Mados in Ebute Meta, Lagos. One Salawe in Ajah, Ganiyu Asaro and four others in Badore area of Lagos after I sprayed bullets into their car, killing all the five occupants.”

Following his confessional statement, Akanni was equally arrested at 3:00p.m. yesterday in Ebute Metta area of Lagos by IRT operatives. Meanwhile, efforts are on to arrest the remaining gang members, who are presently at large.
