After kidnapping an 8-year-old girl in Osun State, the abductors got the N10million ransom they demanded and the child was freed. But the police didn’t let the story end there.

The kidnappers had intercepted Mrs. Basirat Ahmed’s Honda Pilot SUV at Dada Estate area in Osogbo on April 14 and seized her 8-year-old daughter, Taiwo Ahmed.

According to Police sources, the girl was taken to a hideout from where the kidnappers demanded N10m ransom from the parents who eventually paid to get their daughter back.

Backed by the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by ACP Abba Kyari, began to chase the suspects, deploying latest intelligence technology.

On April 25, policemen tracked and intercepted one of them, 40-year-old Akin Nureni, who led IRT operatives to the hideout of other members of the gang.

They, however, didn’t give up without a fight. It was gathered that at the end of the gun duel, a suspect was dead and two injured suspects were arrested. The kidnappers were identified as: Teslim Ibitoye, 38; Sunday David, 35, and Akeem Ibitoye, who allegedly died of bullet wounds.

The sergeant shot in the leg was Sani Mohammed and had been treated and discharged. It was learnt that the Police recovered the Samsung phone used by the kidnappers while negotiating the ransom.

The suspects, receiving treatment for bullet wounds at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, allegedly confessed to several kidnappings in Osun and Ondo States. Police said they are still on the trail of other members of the gang.
