THE member representing Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Mr. Bassey Ewa, the immediate past Chief of Staff to the Governor of Cross River State and Labour Party (LP) candidate for the federal constituency, Mr. Alex Egbona and 10 others have been quizzed by the state police command over recent cases of political violence in their constituency.

Others quizzed by the police yesterday include, the senatorial candidate of LP, Dr. Sandy Onor, member State House of Assembly for Yakurr 2, Mr. Eteng Williams, immediate past Chairman of the Yakurr council, Mr. Ubi Itam, popularly known as “Bomboy” and others.

The Police Public Relations officer, Mr. Hogan Bassey confirmed their interrogation with the police saying, “since the incident we have been inviting some people for interrogation.”

Gunmen had last week Tuesday attacked the house of the LP House of Representatives candidate for the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, Dr. Alex Egbuna in Calabar just as three persons were killed in political clash in Yakurr.

A source said about 7.00 pm, four young men stormed the house in a black Toyota SUV shooting indiscriminately. But they were resisted by the security on guard and a policeman was shot and his rifle taken, a source said. The policeman is receiving treatment in an undisclosed Calabar hospital.

Chairman of the Inter party Advisory Council in the state, Mr. Goddie Akpama, called on political leaders to call their supporters to order and also on security agents to check the growing menace, saying, “the rate of this do or die politics is very bad. If candidates want to win votes and you are killing the people that are coming out to vote, how do you get the votes?”
