Senator Fatimat Raji Rasaki, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, yesterday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among others who dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Olamide Oni, representing Efon/Ijero/Ekiti West Federal Constituency.

The Chief Whip of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Sunday Akinniyi, and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General under Fayose administration, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi also switched allegiances to the rally. Ajayi was also Fayose’s attorney general in his truncated first term from 2003 to 2006.

Rasaki, whose constituency is the largest in the state, is from the same area with the deputy governorship candidate of the APC, Bisi Egbeyemi.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reported that President Muhammadu Buhari received the defectors at the grand finale of the governorship campaign, which took place at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti.

The defections were the major highlights at the mega rally, which was seen as a big blow to the chances of PDP’s candidate, Kolapo Olusola Eleka.

Also receiving them, National Leader of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, told Rasaki repeatedly: “God Bless You,” “God Bless you,” before the arrival of the president.

It was reported that the National Chairman of the APC, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, was also on hand to receive the defectors. He assured them of equal treatment in the party.

Rasaki said they had to dump the PDP because of the selfishness of Governor Ayodele Fayose in the state.

According to her, the PDP has been monopolised by a single individual, who would not allow justice and fair play in the day-to day running of the affairs of the party.

Former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye was the first to jump out of the Fayose’s PDP boat, after the controversial primaries election that produced Olusola.

At the rally, the APC candidate disclosed that he was contesting to rule the state again because he wants to eradicate poverty among the people.
