It is a graveyard peace for residents of Alemu in Oto Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) over fears of a showdown between rival suspected cult members.

After the quiet community has lost over five youths in the last one month, it is now going down to the wires in a brutal game of scores counting and reprisal attacks from the rival groups.

The latest casualty is a young fashion designer, Mr. Perry Abiodun, who was shot to death in his shop by suspected Black Axe members last week Monday.

His friend, who spoke to The Guardian on the condition of anonymity, said he was shocked and livid when he saw the lifeless body of the deceased with all his intestines outside. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the way the police have been handling insecurity in the area.

“In just one month, five people have been killed in this area. Whenever these boys are arrested by the police, they will be released in a week or two, by which time they will become emboldened to commit more atrocities and harass innocent residents or anyone, who dared cross their path.

“We now live in fear. Whenever it is 6:00p.m. our hearts will start skipping because the boys will start terrorising everybody. We are now forced to stay indoors while those who can afford to stay away from the community have relocated with their families in the meanwhile.”Another resident also called on the Commissioner of Police to come to their rescue by bringing perpetrators of the violence to book.

“It is beyond what the area police authorities can handle. Those boys have lost respect for the local policemen. We need a special anti-riot squad to tame the violence,” he said.
