Rights group rraws attention to workers’ plight
As Nigeria prepares to celebrate Workers’ Day tomorrow, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Workers Right Advocates (WRA), in a bid to draw attention to the plight of workers who have been going for months without getting their wages has called on Nigerians to skip breakfast that day, “in symbolic participation in their pains.”
The NGO which has begun a massive campaign in the social media with the theme “Mayday Hunger” said it is by fasting on Workers’ Day, that majority of Nigerians can feel the pains that workers in the country who are being denied their salaries by various state governments, are experiencing on daily basis.
Created by Iyanu Asele Campaign Organisation for the aspiration of Niran Sule-Akinsuyi as the governor of Ondo State, the organisation expressed dismay at what it called “the wickedness of many state governments and employers of labour” in denying the workers their legitimate wages.
