The Senator representing Delta Central, Ovie Omo-Agege, has appealed to the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate (NDGJM) to stop further attacks on the nation’s oil facilities.

His appeal is coming in the wake of the recent bombing of a major oil delivery line operated by the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) at Ogor-Oteri in Delta State.

In a statement in Abuja yesterday Omo-Agege said according to reports, the militants blew up the facility because of their displeasure with the appointment of Chief Edwin Clark as head of the Federal Government’s negotiation team with the group.

He said: “I wish to appeal to the NDGJM to stop further attacks on the nation’s oil and gas assets everywhere, especially in Urhobo land forthwith.” He assured aggrieved groups in Urhobo land that as their representative he would present all their complaints to President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Like other ethnic groups in the Niger Delta, Urhobo’s strategic interests are unique. They cannot be realised under a common canopy of ‘vengeance’. Having been neglected and marginalised in the past, we cannot accept an invitation to unleash violence on a government that prioritises our interests and listens to us. We cannot make such a mistake,” he said.
