The Ekiti State police command has arrested the suspected lunatic who allegedly killed the traditional ruler of Odo-Oro in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin.

The suspect stabbed the traditional ruler with a knife on Monday and fled into the bush, which prompted the police to embark on a manhunt for him.

The monarch was killed shortly after chairing a meeting with his council chiefs where matters of community development were said to have been discussed.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, in a telephone chat on Tuesday disclosed that the culprit, named Omoniyi Ademola Stephen, has been apprehended.

Ikechukwu said that Ademola was arrested at about 4:30p.m. on Monday around Ajao Market in Ado-Ekiti and he is under investigation.

“He confessed to the crime and our investigation continues.

The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation.”

Ikechukwu assured that the police will be professional in their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
