The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) yesterday ordered the indefinite closure of the institution following two days of students’ protests that have paralysed academic and administrative activities.

The students were protesting the suspension of a union leader by the Student Disciplinary Committee as well as lack of power and water among other utilities on campus.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has said that the institution would only accommodate divergent views that would not undermine its academic stability.

According to the UI students, the management of the institution allegedly singled out one of them to be punished for a protest which was carried out in March against the poor power supply and inadequate water in the institution.

The aggrieved students had gone round to chase out their colleagues out of lecture rooms while the entrance gates were locked and roads within the university were barricaded.
