Varsity student shot dead

A three hundred level student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, Akoko, identified as Yemi Akinbamiwa, has been murdered in cold blood in Ondo West Local Council of Ondo State.

The gruesome murder threw the community into great pandemonium as the victim, who is the son of a popular food vendor, was shot dead by some unidentified persons.

The Guardian gathered that the incident occurred along Akure Road on Monday evening when his mother sent the deceased on an errand.

According to eyewitnesses, Akinbamiwa was spotted along the road on the fateful day holding a black nylon bag said to have contained huge sum of money.

They recounted that he was waylaid by the assailants, who rode on a motorcycle to the scene to snatch the bag from him, though with a little resistance.

The late Akinbamiwa, sources narrated, struggled with them before he was allegedly shot at close range by the assailants, who collected the money and rode away on the motorcycle.

This made passersby to run helter-shelter for their lives as the assailants were said to have shot sporadically into the air to scare them away and escape from the scene.

A detachment of the Nigeria Police Force from the Special Anti-Robbery division of Yaba Divisional Police, Station in the town arrived at the scene, while the deceased was lying lifeless in a pool of his own blood.

The remains of Akinbamiwa was deposited at the morgue of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital, whilw policemen patrolled the area to forestall a breakdown of the peace.
