The Independence Day celebrations continued as people across Nigeria and the world came together to sing the national anthem in response to an invitation from MTN.

At 9am yesterday, October 3, a global virtual choir was organised over social media. Using the hashtag #YelloCompatriots, calls were made for everyone, wherever they may be to raise their voices in unity to sing the anthem alongside MTNers – who gathered at commemorative events nationwide. Dressed in national attire, they stood with pride waving flags together with MTN ambassadors, Falz, Praiz, Saka and Nedu at MTN offices nationwide.

Speaking at the Lagos event, Muhammad Siddiqui, Chief Operating Officer MTN said, “As demonstrated today, there is beauty and strength in unity, especially in a nation as rich in diversity as Nigeria – my adopted home. The brilliance, enthusiasm, energy and can-do spirit of our countrymen is accentuated by the opulent multicultural heritage of this country.

“Serving Nigerians is a source of pride and honour for all of us at MTN. We wish peace, progress and prosperity for Nigeria, and pray that God blesses Nigeria and all our countrymen, indigenous and adopted.”

In addition to the colourful spectacle, the company also seized the opportunity to reward some visitors at walk-in centres, and digital natives who sent in videos of themselves singing the anthem on social media platforms.
