Woman inflicts injuries on eight-year-old step-daughter

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a woman, Rose James Michael, for allegedly beating and inflicting life- threatening injuries on her eight-year-old step-daughter, Blessing James Michael.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a woman, Rose James Michael, for allegedly beating and inflicting life- threatening injuries on her eight-year-old step-daughter, Blessing James Michael.

The suspect, according to a statement by the Command’s Spokesman, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi in Abeokuta yesterday, was arrested following a complaint from her husband, James Michael, who reported that his wife called him on the phone while he was away at work, informing him that his daughter “Blessing” beat her little daughter and injured her on her leg and that she was going to revenge by injuring her also.

The husband added that he pleaded with his wife on phone to wait for him to come back from work to see what actually happened “but before his arrival, the woman had used razor blade to inflict deep cuts on the little girl’s two hands and thigh, consequently, upon which the victim was bleeding profusely”. 

Oyeyemi disclosed that, upon the report, the DPO of Ogijo Divisional Police Station, Tijani Muhammed detailed detectives to arrest the suspect.“On interrogation”, Oyeyemi said, “the suspect confessed to committing the offence but blamed it on the devil as she claimed not to know what came over her that made her to do so”. 

According to him, the victim had been taken to a private hospital in Ogijo, where she is currently receiving treatment.The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Anti -Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspect. Iliyasu warned that the command would not tolerate any act of wickedness and man’s inhumanity to man in whatever form.
