The Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF) has sent an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, expressing concern on the state of the nation and offering solution to the challenges confronting the country.

The forum at a gathering yesterday at Ikenne, Ogun State, read a copy of the letter to journalists.

YUF is a non-partisan body of all Yoruba socio-cultural advocacy groups formed in January 2010.

The Deputy Chairman of the forum, Chief Ayo Ladigbolu who read the letter explained that the action was taken because they have made several attempts for over six months to meet President Buhari.

In the letter, the group expressed concern over the economic and social challenges confronting the country.

To overcome these challenges, the forum urged the government to provide more funds to develop agriculture, empower the youths and promote local manufacturers.

The letter reads further: “We, the leaders of YUF have sought audience with you for over six months to express our concern on the state of our nation and offer solutions to the worsening economic situation.

“In view of your inability to see us, we decided to express these concerns and offer solutions openly.

“We, just like most Nigerians, are worried about our rapidly declining foreign reserves and the low allocation to all tiers of government due to a drop in oil production and falling international crude prices, the inability of governments to pay salaries and pensions, the daily depreciating value of the naira, rising inflation and high rate of unemployment.”

The group also advised the president on the national confab, saying: “The 2014 National Conference, consisting of 492 delegates across Nigeria met for over three months and arrived at over 600 resolutions aimed at restructuring the nation.

“To ignore the recommendations of the conference will be a waste of the resources spent on it and turn it into an abandoned project.”

Some of the personalities at the event are Dr. Frederick Fasheun, Senator Femi Okurounmu, Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo Dosunmu, Dr. Kunle Olajide, Prof. Ope Adekunle and Mrs. Bola Doherty.
