Electricity Distribution Company

Sir: We are writing this with the hope that the management of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, in charge of electricity supply in Makurdi, Benue State, will act quickly before things get out of hand.

Before the privatization of PHCN in the country, the officials of the defunct PHCN were known for stealing component parts of transformers, accusing the people of being responsible and making it necessary for each house that was benefiting from such a transformer to pay a certain amount of money for replacement or remain in darkness. After collecting money from people, they quietly returned those parts, making fool of the people.

We were happy when PHCN was to be privatized because we believed that the company was cheating us. It has saddened our hearts that this attitude of stealing parts from electricity transformers by the officials of the defunct PHCN and making it a case against the people with the aim of getting money from them illegally is being exhibited by some officials of the new owners of electricity distribution companies in the country and Jos Electricity Distribution Plc should act fast.

As we write now, many residents at Akpehe community within Makurdi are living in total darkness and the officials of JED Plc are to blame. The officials of JED Plc, having the keys to one of the fenced transformers at Akpehe, woke up a few days ago and announced that something had been stolen from the transformer and accused people within the area of being responsible. The question is; who stole it if not the same persons who are having keys to that transformer in question. There is no single sign of somebody breaking into the fenced transformer .

This is a complaint to the management of JED Plc to do something before its image is dented.
