Aliyu looses senatorial election in Niger
IN the results so far released, incumbent governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu of the PDP is on verge of being defeated in the Niger East Senatorial District election as his closest rival, Barrister David Umaru of the APC is in a clear lead, winning all the five Local Government Councils out of the nine in the zone, so far released.
The results, which were officially announced at the Senatorial Collation Centre at College of Education, Minna by the returning officer for the District, Professor Ali Audu Jigam, showed the APC scoring 49,519 while PDP got 17,209 votes.
The APC candidate got 18,887 votes in Gurara local government to defeat the PDP candidate who scored 6,520 while in Shiroro local government APC polled 27,191 votes as against 7,519 votes for PDP. In Tafa LGA, the collating officer, Dr. Emmanuel Daniya said that the governor was defeated by the APC with 17,596 votes to 8,151 votes scored by PDP while in Bosso, it was a land slide victory for the APC candidate with 36,250 voters where the PDP got 7,060 votes. Umaru also extended his winning to Munya where he polled 13, 666 over governor Aliyu’s 6,635 votes.
At the time of filing this report, three LGAs of Suleja, Paikoro and Rafi were yet to arrive at the centre.
