Two factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State yesterday held parallel governorship primaries.

Meanwhile, unknown gunmen in an unmarked car detonated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in front of the pro-Chibuike Amaechi APC Secretariat along Aba Road, Port Harcourt while delegates were awaiting accreditation.

As Senator Magnus Abe’s supporters turned out en-masse in the various wards in the 23 local councils of the state for direct primaries, another governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Domu Lulu-Briggs, who described as sham and a perfidious travesty the APC primaries, accused the Ojukaye Flag-Amachree-led executive of handpicking delegates of the party who were told to assemble at secret locations from where they would be transported to the venue for the sole agenda of imposing the preferred aspirant.

In another development, the Buruji Kashamu and Ladipupo Adebutu factions held parallel governorship primaries in Ogun State.

The Kashamu faction produced Adeleke Shittu as the elected candidate for the 2019 election while that of Adebutu faction elected Adebutu.

Both of them were elected unopposed at different venues.

The two elected candidates claimed they had bought forms from the party’s national committee.

While Shittu insisted that his faction is the only one recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adebutu’s faction claimed it is the only recognised one by the national body.
