No fewer than 20 youths were injured yesterday in Mbaitoli Local Council of Imo State following a clash said to have ensued between youths loyal to the Imo Chief of Staff, Chief Uche Nwosu, popularly referred to ‘Ugwumba’ and another group said to be loyal to Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere.

Madumere hails from Achi Mbieri local council, while Nwosu is from Nkwere local council. The Guardian gathered that trouble started when about 500 men, wearing T- shirts suspected to be campaigning for the governorship ambition of Nwosu stormed the council headquarters along Umuaka- Orlu Road, but were prevented.

A source said they were prevented from a planned mission to endorse the Chief of Staff which led to shooting by some security agents with some people injured.

An eye witness said: “Some youths stormed this council in about 25 buses and tried to force themselves in when the shooting started. Many were injured, if not dead.”
