Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje yesterday approved the appointment of new political office holders, including Muhammad Ibrahim Hassan Fairuz, who was named Special Adviser on Solid Minerals to replace Hajia Balaraba Ibrahim, an associate of former governor of the state, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso (representing Kano Central), whose appointment was terminated with immediate effect.

Ibrahim occupied the strategic office for four years during Kwankwaso’s administration and was reappointed by Ganduje. There were insinuations that he was fired for attending a political event organised by Kwankwaso in Kaduna.

The state government, in a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Communications, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, did not state any reason why Ibrahim was removed.

Other appointees announced include Ibrahim Ahmed Bichi as Executive Secretary, Library Board; Hadiza Aminu Baffa, Executive Secretary, Agency for Mass Education; and Hajia Sakina Aminu Yusuf, Chairperson, Hajj Tribunal.

Yusuf, a member of the tribunal, now replaces Khadi Salisu Mohammed, who was earlier announced as chairman, but now serves as member. The statement charged the new appointees to justify the trust reposed in them by ensuring that the administration’s goal of transforming Kano is achieved.
