One of the two challengers of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as the duly elected candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 PDP governorship election in Abia State, Dr. Uche Ogah, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ogah, whose challenge of Ikpeazu’s candidacy was laid to rest by the Supreme Court, was yet to formalise his exit from the PDP by way of resignation.

Speaking to journalists in Umuahia, the state capital, Ogah said: “After the Supreme Court decision on the 2015 Abia governorship election, I took time to rest and during this time, many political parties approached me to join them.

“But after careful thoughts and consultations, I finally decided to join APC, which is the ruling party at the national level and which party I also consider that Abia needs to be identified with.”

He said the APC is well structured and positioned and upholds internal democracy and is the party for progressives in the country.

Asked if he would contest the 2019 governorship election on the party’s platform, Ogah said he was yet to give it a thought, adding: “I believe in change and Abia State needs this change for better governance and to effect this change, Abians shall vote for the APC in 2019.

“I have not made up my mind on the 2019 governorship race. I believe the APC will choose who runs and that that person must be the best.”
