Lagos PDP caretaker committee endorses George for chairmanship

Notable members of the Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the leadership of the State’s Caretaker Committee, have endorsed the ambition of former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George for the position of the national chairman in the scheduled December 9 national convention.

The members, which include former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Chief (Mrs.) Kofo Bucknor-Akerele; former Minister of Works, Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe; Dr. Remi Akitoye and others who were present during a visit by the Lagos PDP Caretaker Committee led by Chief Babatunde Osolanke yesterday posited that George was the best material for the national chairman.

Speaking on behalf of the committee at Ikoyi office George, the caretaker committee chairman said the former deputy national chairman is a man of vision, dedication who has served the party selflessly and therefore deserves the apex position in the PDP.

He said the caretaker committee has adopted George as its candidate, saying, “His (George’s) aspiration to be the national chairman of the PDP is an elevation which he surely deserves.”

While commending George’s leadership role, not only in Lagos, but also in the entire country, Osolanke said it would be the joy of the Lagos Caretaker Committee if Chief George emerges as the party ‘s chairman.

In his response, George said he is very appreciative of the visit saying he was very grateful.

He told the committee members that the presence of several leaders of the party during their visit is in indication that there is unity within the party in Lagos State.
“ You can see Chief Adeseye Ogunlewe, Dr. Remi Akitoye, Chief Kofo Bucknor-Akerele and a whole lot of other leaders, that is to tell you that Lagos PDP is one and there is no disunity “, George said.

He appealed to the committee to ensure that next Saturday Congress of the party is free and fair saying he sees everybody participating in the Congress as his sons and daughters.

He assured that he will not be bias or promote a situation where anybody will be given undue advantage.

He said it is only when the party is united that it can defeat the APC.

He appealed to the party leaders who were present during the visit to go to their local governments and talk to the men and women and the youths to allow for peace during the Congress.
