A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Julius Ucha, has condemned the outcome of the ward congress held across the country at the weekend, which has fueled crisis in the party.

He alleged that the John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee (NWC) carried out a civilian coup against the party supporters and President Muhammadu Buhari.Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, Ucha noted that the 2015 APC governorship candidate in the state alleged that the crisis and violence that trailed ward congress across the country were caused by the ‘illegal and unethical’ actions of the NWC members.

He said that their actions have thrown the party into anarchy and endangered the democratic process, resulting to violence and lawlessness, as people were not given the freedom to choose their party leaders. He added that the Odigie-Oyegun-led NWC perpetrated the crisis, as its members were bent on destroying the party to satisfy their selfish interests.

Ucha accused the NWC of orchestrating the crisis in all the states of the country, especially Ebonyi, where factional executives had emerged since the congresses of 2014, which Odigie-Oyegun adopted as the best congress in the state. He also described the Congress Committee as illegal and in contravention of the electoral act, party constitution and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He argued that it was so because the committee was being a judge in their own courts since most of them that put up the congress structure were also interested contestants.
