Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun

• Commends His Choice Of Yewa Awori

Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry and a major actor in Yewa Awori and Ogun State politics, Chief Kolawole Lawal Mobolorunduro (KLM), has commended the state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for giving the people of Ogun West Senatorial district, comprising of Yewa Awori the rare opportunity to produce the next governor of the state come 2019.

The Commissioner, who is also the Adele Oba of Oke Odan Land regretted that since the creation of the state in 1976, the people of the zone have been marginalised in respect to governance at the centre leading to the stagnant growth in the area.

The commissioner, who noted that the pronouncement by the governor would put an end to various agitations by the people of the district added that “producing the next governor of the state in 2019 would bring an end to the era of neglect, just as our people will begin to enjoy the dividend of democracy we all fought for’’.

KLM said: ‘’Some people try as much as possible to write their name in gold while some chose otherwise. Governor Ibikunle Amosun has written his name in gold by coming up with his declaration that only a credible candidate from Yewa Awori will succeed him come 2019. Our people will never forget him for taking this bold step.

“Let me take you down the memory lane. In 1979, Chief Bisi Onabanjo from Ijebu won the governorship election on the platform of Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). He was represented by the party in 1983 and won again. An Egba man, Chief Segun Osoba succeeded Onabanjo in 1993. He returned in 1999 under AD as the executive governor of the state. In 2003 Gbenga Daniel came in through the PDP in 2003 on the ticket of Remo and he ruled for eight years before Senator Amosu took over power in 2011. In all these, the Ogun West was totally excluded from the political equation’’.

‘’Democracy itself is about equity and equal opportunity and we are very happy that we the people of Yewa Awori are now being allowed to have a voice on the governance of our state.’’

The Forestry Commissioner, therefore, advised the leadership of the party in the state to ensure that the process that would produce the governorship candidate of the party come 2019 is credible and transparent.

‘’Ours is a great party that believes in equity and justice. I will like to see this displayed in whatever selection process to be embarked on come 2019 to enable us to produce a candidate that cannot be matched by the opposition in terms knowledge, know how, capability and acceptance by the good people of Ogun State.’’

Speaking on why he is in the race for 2003, KLM said: “I joined politics primarily in 2003 because of my passion for our people; to make life better for them and for once, ensure that they also enjoy the dividend of democracy. But there is also a need to sustain the current effort of the state government to reposition the state’s economy and you need someone who has been part of the system to achieve this. My accomplishments in the private sector, particularly Mobil Producing will be a great asset to the state.’’

KLM, however, commended Senator Amosun for his purposeful leadership and his enriching lives of the people of Ogun State.

His words: “From all indications, Governor Amosun, through his policies and programmes has delivered the dividend of democracy to the good people of Ogun State. You could see the effort of his government in sustaining its drive to attract foreign and local investors to the state. To date, close to one hundred and fifty industries have berthed in the state, with the yearly investors’ forum used as platform to gather ideas on how to move the economy of the state forward from technocrats and seasoned administrators both from within and outside Nigeria.

“Governor Amosun again scored first as the only chief executive of the state who has realised the need to have an excellent road network and in addition, constructed six overhead bridges across the state. The housing programme of the government is also excellent. I’m confident that the Governor will continue to address the critical questions of development in all its ramifications in the state despite the dwindling allocation from the federation account.”

An indigene of Oke Odan in Ogun State, Chief Kolawole Wasiu Lawal bagged his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Accountancy from Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in 1986 and 1990 respectively. He proceeded to University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt where he obtained his B.Sc in Banking and Finance in 1998.
