The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won in three local councils in the elections conducted by Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) across the 23 local councils of the state at the weekend.

The results already declared had the candidate of the PDP in Gokana Local Council, Mr. Paul Kobani and his Ikwere Local Council counterpart, Samuel Nwanosike, declared winner of the chairmanship seat.

The PDP was also said to have won in Akuku-Toru Local Council.

The Returning Officer of Ikwerre Local Council, Mr. Paulinus Nsirim, returned Nwanosike as the elected candidate having pulled 78,662 votes out of 82,145.

As at the time of filing in this report, some results were ready but not declared while others are still being collated.

Some residents said the smooth winning by the PDP followed the boycott of the poll by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Out of 68 political parties billed to participate in the election, only six parties participated.

The Chairmanship candidate of the party in Emohual Local Council, Tom Aliezi, said: “This is the first time we are having an election that is free and transparent.

The process was peace and credible. In this polling unit, voters turned out after the rain. There was no attack by anybody.
