The bomb attempt was coming exactly one week after a mosque and restaurant were rocked by blasts that left scores dead in Jos. It was gathered that the explosions occurred at ECWA Church in Tudun Wada, Angwan Yashi, near the Federal Secretariat in Jos, in the morning at about 11 am.

A witness near the church said the noise from the “massive” explosion was very massive and that it exploded from the toilet and that worshippers were at the church for the Sunday service.

The witness also said another bomb was detonated outside the church premises and that no life was lost in the two bomb blasts. The ECWA church was filled with worshippers when the private security guard spotted the bomb at the entrance, another witness told journalists.

The guard picked the bomb and threw it off the church before it exploded instantly. No one was killed from the explosion; although the guard sustained injuries on the leg and is currently being treated at home, another worshipper added.

Another witness said the police anti-bomb squad, on arrival, discovered another explosive device that was planted at the restroom of the church.

The anti-bomb squad detonated that bomb. Meanwhile, the police have also said no one was killed from the explosion. Police Spokesperson in Plateau, Deputy Superintendent Abuh Emmanuel, told journalists that anti-bomb experts have been deployed to the scene. “Experts have been sent there immediately to ascertain the damages,” he added.

However, the Spokesman of the Special Task Force (STF), Captain Ikedichi Iweha, said that the church and the environs are now being guarded by the men of the STF and other security agencies. He urged the people to be security conscious by reporting any strange object and movement to the security agencies.
