Taiga condemns raid on Clark’s Abuja home
The President General of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) Worldwide, Olorogun Moses Taiga, has condemned the recent raid on the Abuja home of elder statesman and Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin K. Clark. He, however, commended the Nigerian Police authorities for taking prompt action to discipline the policemen that carried out the raid, saying: “A democracy must not run like a police state.”
In a statement yesterday, Taiga advised all Nigerians, especially law enforcement agents, not to engage in any act capable of aggravating the already fragile peace in the country and Niger Delta militants, who threatened to return to the creeks, to refrain from doing anything that could worsen the security situation in the country. He added: “We in the Niger Delta are not happy about the raid, but disrupting economy activities is not the solution. “Elections are here and anybody who is not happy about any elected officer or party should speak with his/her voter’s card.”
