We must restructure Nigeria, says Makarfi

A presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi said yesterday that Nigeria must be restructured if it must continue to survive.He stated that restructuring was the policy of the PDP and would receive utmost attention should the party return to power in 2019.

A presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi said yesterday that Nigeria must be restructured if it must continue to survive.He stated that restructuring was the policy of the PDP and would receive utmost attention should the party return to power in 2019. Makarfi said that the type of restructuring being pursued by the party was one that was holistic in terms of politics and institutions of government to enable it serve the needs of the people.

He spoke in Enugu when he met with leaders and stakeholders of the party as part of effort to present his aspirations to party leaders. Decrying the lip service being paid by the current administration to the issue, he stated that the challenges the country faced in terms of governance and the various agitations were hinged on the inability to restructure. He further cautioned the leadership of the PDP to be careful with the choice of candidates that would fly its flag in the 2019 general elections to avoid mistakes that could derail it.

The aspirant warned that though several Nigerians are clamouring for change especially at the national level based on the abysmal performance of the current administration, they are however not prepared to accept any kind of candidate foisted on them by the party for the elections. Makarfi, who said Nigeria, needed a president that was interested in the overall peace, unity and development of all segments of the country, stressed that he would undertake 90 percent of his campaigns by road to enable him meet the people and know the problems of the various segments.
