Cross River to construct Benue border road

To reduce the sufferings of Wanikem and Wanikade communities in Cross River State, Governor Ben Ayade has promised the completion of the deplorable Benue border road in Yala local government axis.

The governor gave the assurance during the official flag-off of the construction of Yahe-Wanikade Benue border road in Yala,

While acknowledging the deplorable state of the road, Ayade, who was represented by his deputy, Professor Ivara Esu said the state would do everything possible to complete the road as promised during his last election campaigns.

He said “the 36km road project is a matter of necessity to ease the sufferings of the people as well as help to empower the communities and open it to the outside world.”

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Dan Asim said the flag off was in fulfillment of the Governor’s promise of providing social amenities to the northern and southern Ukelli people.

He assured that the road project would be 80percent completed by August 2018, as the road would be done through direct labour under his ministry direct supervision.

Some of the indigenes of the communities expressed delight at the road project, which they described as welcome development after a long time of suffering.
The Clan Head of Ukelli, Ubet Odom, who commended the Governor for keeping to his promise, said the flag off showed new beginning in the lives of the people of Ukelli.
