Convinced of government’s inability cum lack of interest in tackling the problem of mass housing provision in the country, private sector developers have continued to step up their game to fill the void. The words of Mr. Dotun Oloyede of Mcbuddy Properties Limited are laced with this passion as the firm has begun offering its second phase project to prospective subscribers.

With phase one which started in 2011 sold out 90 percent, the company rolled out its phase two in the last quarter of 2015 on 14 acres both located in the fast developing Shimawa axis of Ogun State, not leaving out Abuja among others scattered all over the Central Northern region. This includes Nasarawa State, Karshi, Gurku, Orozo and Giri. Each estate offers a minimum of 20 units of homes.

Explaining how the company came into existence, the general manager expressed sadness and disappointment at government, state and federal alike, for the obvious lack of direction and clout in the area, in spite of its imperativeness.

“Nigeria is not a country where the government pays attention to the masses or provide for its citizens. There is a huge housing deficit, outrageous rents and lots of other inconveniences that Nigerian’s have to grapple with yet the government seems so unconcerned. So, the market is there because the most important thing for the average Nigerian today is to own a roof over his head,” he stated.

He disclosed that the firm’s management pays close attention to the provision of infrastructure in the estates, as they are mainly sites and services schemes.
“We are solely responsible for the provision of basic infrastructure including light, water, good networks and most importantly, security. We like to go the extra mile. There is 24 hours surveillance, security cameras and other products that we won’t give away now just to create that element of surprise”.

It’s phase one project which comprised of over 30 acres, executed on the basis of 20 acres for development while the remaining 10 acres was used for laying out the general areas including the roads, drainage channels, gate house, park and so forth. This, they intend to replicate on all estates by the firm.

“We will construct multi unit homes because it should be less expensive than detached homes. Our designs come in three and four bedroom apartments and duplexes. The prices range from N13million to N22 million.

A flexible payment plan for the convenience of our clients requires an initial deposit of N500, 000. The rest is spread over 24months, which is enough time for the house to be ready for its owner to move in and start living.
