Governing council, board members on Niger Delta clean-up at a glance

Following the inauguration of the governing council and board of implementation of the UNEP Report on Niger Delta, the federal authorities have announced the names of the members, expected to ensure an effective clean-up of Ogoniland and other impacted sites.

The Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed will chair the Governing Council that plans to hold its maiden assembly on August 16, 2016 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The former Finance Commissioner in Lagos, Mr. Wale Ebun, will chair the Board of Trustees (BOT).

Membership of the Governing Council are as follows: Minister of State Petroleum Resources/Chairman NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu; Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma; Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani; National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd); Managing Director (Designate) – NDDC, Mr. Nisima Ekere; Managing Director – SPDC, Mr. Osagie Okunbor; and Non-Governmental Organisation – Anyakwee Nsirimovu (IHRHL).

Others are: Prof Roselyn Konya, Commissioner in Rivers State and State representative of nine Oil Producing States, Pyagbara Legborsi ; Representatives of Ogoni Stakeholders,Prof. Ben Naneen; Alternates, Kammy Ngelala, Dr. Batam Ndegwe, Mrs Timi Agari, Representatives of other Niger Delta Communities.  Mrs. Pamela Esiri, Alternates, Mr. Israel Kayode,  Mrs Emem Okon,United Nations Environmental Programme ,UNEP – Observer status.

The names of BOT chaired by Edun are Minister of State Environment, Ibrahim Usman Jibril; Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources/Chairman NNPC, Kachikwu, Dr. Peter Medee, Chief Bebe Okpabi, Representatives of Ogoni Stakeholders.

Others are: Mr. Osagie Okunbor, Mr. Insula Massimo, Mr. Nicholas Terraz, International Oil Companies, (SPDC/Agip/Total), Prince Dr. Mike Emuh National Chairman, HOSCOM,Rep of other Communities in Niger Delta, Mr. Nnimmo Bassey (HOMEF),Non-Governmental Organisation,United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) – Observer status.
