NEMA to train volunteers on flood management

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has commenced the training of volunteers on flood risk management in North Central States.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has commenced the training of volunteers on flood risk management in North Central States.

Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Sani Sidi, who spoke through the Deputy director, Disaster Risk Reduction, Benjamin Ogena, said the training is part of the assistance pledged by international partners after the 2012 flood disaster.

The Islamic Development Bank, which is one of the partners, offered the sum of $250, 000 for training on various issues with regard to flooding.

The Executive Secretary, Kogi State Management Agency Mr. Alhassan Ayegba, stressed that about N2.6 trillions worth of materials and property were lost during the 2012 flood disaster.

According to him, that statistic was enough for such programme in order to mitigate against future occurence.He said Kogi State has always been at the receiving end of such disaster as the entire local council of Ibaji and Bass were submerge, while Lokoja and Koto also suffered more from the disaster.
