NLC partners firm on 1,500 units for Gombe State workers

The Gombe State wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reached an agreement with a private firm – Messrs ASUJ International Company Limited to build about N8.4 billion for the state civil servants and council workers.

Speaking during a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony, the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Haruna Kamara stated that the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) would finance the project, which would gulp N8.4 billion.

He said a total of 1,500 housing units would be constructed. It consists of 600 units of three bedroom flats; 600 units of two-bedroom flats and 300 units of one-bedroom flats. The units will be located at a 100-acre plot of land acquired by the NLC along Gombe-Bauchi Highway.

The NLC Chairman noted that the state civil servants ranked the first in total compliance with the 2.5 per cent contributions to the FMBN under the national Housing Fund (NHF) in the North-East and second after Abuja in the entire North, a feat he said, made it easy for the NLC to access the loans.

Haruna urged the firm to purchase all materials from Gombe and employ indigenes in order to create jobs in the state.He added that the project would be completed in 20 months immediately after construction commences.

Also speaking the Chairman of the Company, Alhaji Abubkar Umar Jibirila said that the project would cost over N8billion and completed the project within 20 months.

He further said that the company acquired 100 hectares of lands to build the 1500 housing unit and work will commence immediately.Alhaji Jibiril pledged that his company would deliver quality and affordable houses to the state and local government civil servants.
