Anambra hots up for Ogbunike Cave Carnival
Organisers Postpone Ada Ogbunike
Ogbunike Community in Oyi LGA of Anambra State is currently in frenzy mood, as locals and visitors celebrate this year’s Ogbunike Cave Carnival. The event, which commenced yesterday (December 30) with the OCC Five-A-Side Football Tournament and Women Volleyball Challenge at the Ogbunike Town Hall, continues today (Dec 31) with the Walk4life.
Starting from 7am today (December 31), the walk, which will commence from Ilo Mgbada Azu, will go through the usual routes, to the Round Palace of Igwe Ogbunike, HRH John Ositadimma Umenyiora, where guests will pay homage to the King, who celebrated his 75th birthday and 40 years on the throne on Boxing Day.
From the Palace, the train will move to the Cave, where visitors and tourist will have the opportunity of exploring the tourist destination that has put Ogbunike community on the world map. The day will wrap with the Carnival Concert/New Year Countdown by 6pm, at the Town Hall, with different musicians and comedians on parade.
Meanwhile, the organisers have announced the postponement of Ada Ogbunike Beauty pageant, which usually mark the end of the three-day event. Originally scheduled for New Year Day, at the Ogbunike Town Hall, the pageant has now been postponed indefinitely, while other activities will go ahead as planned.
“Due to some challenges, we thought it wise to postpone the Ada Ogbunike for now. As much as people would have wanted us to go ahead, we’ve set a standard for ourselves; there’s no going down. However, a new date for the pageant will be announced on a later date. Notwithstanding, other activities lined up will go on as planned. We regret any inconvenience this change might cause our teaming fans, but our decision is in the interest of the people,” Adaeze Uzodoh, the project manager explained.

This Ogbunike cave is supposed to be a protected enclave because it has not been properly studied for good of the people, even their history and the history of mankind in general. Why the rush to hold carnival there? The huge number of visitors would damage important thing there.
We will review and take appropriate action.
