Moviegoers couldn’t wait for the anticipated and star-studded Nollywood movie, Isoken, to premiere in Nigeria. News had filtered in from the United Kingdom (UK) that the movie with a stellar cast, including some A-list Nollywood actresses, such as Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Funke Akindele-Bello, Lydia Forson and Damilola Adegbite Attoh, sold out in all the premiere shows that held in the UK two weeks ago.

And so when the premiere date of June 11 was announced, the cinema hall couldn’t contain the large crowd of quality guests that the Nigerian premiere attracted.
Clearly an outstanding and entertaining romantic comedy, Isoken, produced and directed by Jade Osiberu, tells the story of self-discovery that explores cultural expectations, racial stereotypes and the bonds that unite families.

It centres on a successful, but unmarried 34-year-old lady, who has to deal with the usual societal pressure that comes with being single.Currently showing in major cinemas across the country, the entertaining movie, which is filled with melodrama, was met with favour by the eager movie crowd.

But it is to the four leading ladies- Funke, Dakore, Lydia and Damilola- that credit should go to for the excellent outcome of the movie. Their acting was roundly excellent and they all gave a commendable portrayal of the respective roles. Celebrity salutes these amazing talents and the other members of the cast and crew who deserve a great deal of credit for their efforts in the movie.

Dakore (Isoken)
DAKORE Egbuson-Akande played the title role, Isoken, and as usual, she nailed the role. Dakore always brings class and finesse to the interpretation of roles. She plays nearly every role she is given with so much depth and with the right attitude.

Those who have followed her career say they are not surprised at her sharp portrayal, as she has always acted with unerring skill and with a way of throwing her whole being into every role she portrays.

A multiple award-winning film//stage actor, television personality, singer and dancer, Dakore is an ambassador for Amnesty International (AI) and America’s Oxfam. A seasoned actress with stellar performances, she played leading roles in Silent Tears, Emotional Crack, Games Men Play and most recently, Fifty, amongst many others.

Funke (Agnes)
POPULAR Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele-Bello, played Agnes in Isoken.
A prolific actress and content producer, Funke literarily lit up Isoken with her portrayal of the role of Agnes. A multi- award winning actress, her name is on the lips of most moviegoers, particularly those who have encountered her engaging run in Jenifa, the wave-making television series, where she plays the title role.

Indeed, this Ikorodu, Lagos- born pretty Law graduate of the University of Lagos, who endeared herself to producers in Nollywood for the engaging runs she had in the television serial, I need To Know, has moved far beyond her post-I need to Know efforts.

She is currently one of the hottest actresses on the turf raking in credits and award as she runs along. Born to parents whom she described as “very liberal” and who are both from Ikorodu, Funke has proven with her numerous offerings that she is cut out for acting, even though she read Law.

Influenced greatly by the acting abilities of some of Nigeria’s great actresses, such as Barbara Soky, Joke Silva, Liz Benson and the late Bimpe Adekola, aka Ireti, Funke has received all the major awards that is there to receive, including the Future Award, the Best of Nollywood Awards for Best Actress, the Afro Hollywood Award, the African Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) and the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for her effort in the Yoruba comic movie, Jenifa, which she starred in and produced.

In her movie pouch are such other hit flicks as Atlanta with Charles Novia, Egg of Life with Andy Amanechi, Final Whistle with Ifeanyi Ikpoenyi, Botife, Osele, Ojo Ke Ta La, Apaadi and a host of others.

Damilola (Joke)
BORN Damilola Adegbite, the actress and model is married to notable Ghanaian actor, Chris Attoh.Dami played Joke in Isoken and she discharged her role equitably. An actress known for the long standing performance in the Mnet sponsored television series, Tinsel, Dami played lead in Shirley Frimpong Manso’s successful romantic comedy, 6 Hours to Christmas, and she put a superb performance in Flower Girl, directed by Mitchell Belo.

Lydia (Kukua)

An award-winning actress, who had received the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) crest for Best Actress for her performance in the Shirley Frimpong Manso’s award winning romantic comedy, Perfect Picture, Lydia is gradually becoming a regular feature in big budget and critically acclaimed Nigerian movies.
